The Global X Defense Tech ETF (SHLD) is a passively managed, non-diversified exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance of the Global X Defense Tech Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in the securities of this underlying index, which may include common stocks, American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), and Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs). The index is owned and developed by Global X Management Company LLC, an affiliate of the fund and its investment adviser, establishing the fund as part of Global Xs broader lineup of thematic ETFs.
The defense technology sector generally includes companies engaged in defense electronics, advanced weapons systems, unmanned aerial and autonomous systems, cybersecurity, and aerospace and satellite communications. As a thematic ETF launched in September 2023, SHLD offers investors targeted exposure to firms positioned to benefit from ongoing global defense modernization efforts and rising military expenditure.
