Description: SCHR Schwab Intermediate-Term

The Schwab Intermediate-Term U.S. Treasury ETF (SCHR) is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to track a market-weighted index of U.S. Treasury securities with remaining maturities between three and ten years. Under its principal investment policy, the fund commits at least 90% of its net assets to securities included in the underlying index, which is constructed to include only investment-grade, fixed-rate, non-convertible U.S. dollar-denominated Treasury issues with at least $300 million in outstanding face value.

As an intermediate-duration government bond ETF, SCHR offers investors exposure to the belly of the U.S. Treasury yield curve, a segment that typically balances higher yields than short-term Treasuries against lower interest-rate sensitivity than long-term bonds. The underlying securities are direct obligations of the U.S. government, which is generally considered to carry minimal credit risk relative to corporate and municipal debt issuers.

Listed on the NYSE since its launch on August 5, 2010, SCHR is one of several intermediate Treasury ETFs in the U.S. market and serves as a core building block for conservative income and diversified fixed-income portfolios. With approximately $12.97 billion in assets under management, it is among the larger funds in its category, providing investors with relatively liquid access to a broad basket of intermediate-maturity Treasuries.

Headlines to Watch Out For
  • Fed rate cuts lower intermediate Treasury yields
  • U.S. fiscal deficits drive Treasury supply concerns
  • Inflation data shifts 3-10 year yield expectations
