The Putnam BDC Income ETF (PBDC) is a non-diversified exchange-traded fund that primarily invests in business development companies (BDCs), which are investment vehicles focused on providing capital, loans, and services to privately-held or thinly traded U.S. public companies.
BDCs were established by Congress in 1980 through amendments to the Investment Company Act of 1940 to help channel capital to small and mid-sized private businesses, and they are generally required to distribute the majority of their taxable income to shareholders in order to maintain pass-through tax treatment.
