OFG Bancorp is a U.S. financial holding company headquartered in San Juan, Puerto Rico, that operates through three segments: Banking, Wealth Management, and Treasury. Founded in 1964, the company provides retail and commercial banking products-including savings, checking, certificates of deposit, IRAs, and a full range of consumer and commercial loans-as well as mortgage banking, loan sales, and securitization activities. Its wealth management segment offers securities brokerage, insurance agency, captive reinsurance, and trust services, while the Treasury segment manages investment securities (mortgage-backed, U.S. government agency, and Treasury obligations) and conducts asset/liability management, including interest rate hedging and derivatives. As a regional bank holding company, OFG follows the standard U.S. structure in which the parent company owns and regulates the bank subsidiary separately; the Puerto Rico banking market is distinguished by oversight through the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions rather than dual state-FDIC supervision typical in the mainland U.S.
- Puerto Rico economic recovery fuels loan and deposit growth
- Net interest margin compression risks as Fed cuts rates
- Mortgage banking revenue pressured by elevated rate environment
