Kronos Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: KRO) is a Dallas-based producer of titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigments, supplying rutile and anatase crystalline grades to manufacturers of paints, coatings, plastics, paper, fibers, and ceramics worldwide. The company also sells ilmenite feedstock, iron-based chemicals used in water treatment and pigments, and specialty chemicals serving electronics and pearlescent pigment applications, with products distributed under the KRONOS brand.
Founded in 1916 and operating as a subsidiary of Valhi, Inc., Kronos falls within the Materials sector and the Commodity Chemicals sub-industry, an area characterized by cyclical pricing driven by global supply-demand balances and concentrated end markets in industrial coatings and construction-related materials.
TiO2 manufacturing primarily relies on either the sulfate process or the chloride process, and the pigment is the most widely used white pigment globally due to its opacity and brightness, making demand closely tied to coatings, plastics, and paper output.
- TiO2 selling prices rise on tightening global pigment supply
- European paint demand weakens amid construction slowdown
- Chinese TiO2 exports pressure North American pricing margins
