The fund invests primarily in municipal bonds, allocating at least 80% of its assets to this category under normal market conditions. It also holds municipal mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities, as well as restricted securities. Income generated from the municipal bond holdings is exempt from federal income tax.
As a muni national intermediate ETF listed on the NYSE, the fund provides exposure to tax-exempt fixed income securities issued by U.S. state and local governments, which typically finance public infrastructure and capital projects. The fund launched in February 1993 and currently operates with a small-cap market capitalization.
