BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) is a U.S.-based manufacturer of nuclear components operating through two segments: Government Operations and Commercial Operations. The Government segment supplies precision naval nuclear reactors, fuel, and components, along with valves, fittings, and research reactor fuel for universities and national laboratories, while the Commercial segment produces nuclear steam generators, fuel handling systems, pressure vessels, and storage containers for used nuclear fuel. Beyond components, the company provides engineering services, in-plant inspection and maintenance, non-destructive examination, and lifecycle support for nuclear power plants, and is also active in medical radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals. Headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia, BWXT was founded in 1867 and adopted its current name in 2015 after previously operating as The Babcock & Wilcox Company.
Within the Industrials sector (Aerospace & Defense sub-industry), BWXT occupies a specialized niche as one of a very small number of companies authorized to design and manufacture naval nuclear reactors for the U.S. Navy, which gives the Government Operations segment a high-barrier-to-entry, sole-source character. The Commercial Operations segment addresses the global nuclear power services and fuel market, where aging reactor fleets and life-extension projects drive recurring demand for replacement components, fuel, and technical services.
