United Bankshares, Inc. (UBSI) is a bank holding company that operates through subsidiaries to provide commercial and retail banking services across the United States. The company offers a full range of deposit products-including checking, savings, money market, time deposits, IRAs, and NOW accounts-alongside a diversified loan portfolio covering commercial and industrial lending, construction and real estate loans, residential mortgages, consumer loans, and home equity financing. Beyond traditional banking, UBSI provides ancillary services such as trust and safe deposit products, wire transfers, ATM access, online and telephone banking, and community banking offerings like asset management, mortgage banking, brokerage, title insurance, and investment management services.
The company was incorporated in 1982 and is headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia. As a regional bank under the GICS classification, UBSI follows a community banking model typical of mid-sized U.S. regional institutions, serving small to mid-size businesses and retail customers through a subsidiary-driven branch network. The company has been publicly traded since its 1990 IPO on NASDAQ.
