The iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) is a non-diversified fund that primarily tracks a semiconductor-focused index, investing at least 80% of its assets in the indexs component securities or instruments with substantially identical economic characteristics. The remaining assets may be allocated to futures, options, swap contracts, and cash or cash equivalents, giving the fund flexibility to manage exposure and liquidity. Listed on NASDAQ since its 2001 IPO, SOXX is classified as a Technology ETF and targets large-cap holdings.
As a sector-specific fund, SOXX provides exposure to the semiconductor value chain, which includes chip designers, foundries, and equipment manufacturers that supply critical components for electronics, computing, and communications. The ETF is part of the iShares family, the ETF brand operated by BlackRock, one of the worlds largest asset managers. Because the fund is non-diversified, it may hold a more concentrated portfolio than diversified funds, making its performance closely tied to conditions in the semiconductor industry.
