Description: SMH Semiconductor

The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that tracks a benchmark index of U.S.-listed semiconductor companies. It invests at least 80% of its total assets in securities included in that index, which consists of common stocks and depositary receipts of companies operating in the semiconductor industry. The fund may hold mid-capitalization stocks as well as shares of foreign companies listed on U.S. exchanges, and it is structured as a non-diversified fund.

The semiconductor industry supplies the chips and integrated circuits that power a wide range of electronic devices, including computers, smartphones, data centers, and automobiles. The sector is characterized by high capital intensity, significant research and development requirements, and pronounced cyclical demand tied to broader technology and consumer electronics cycles.
