The First Trust Developed Markets Ex-US AlphaDEX® Fund (FDT) is an exchange-traded fund that invests at least 90% of its net assets in the securities comprising its underlying index. This index uses the proprietary AlphaDEX® selection methodology to screen and select stocks from the NASDAQ Developed Markets Ex-US Index, with the goal of identifying companies capable of generating positive alpha, or risk-adjusted excess returns, compared to traditional market-cap-weighted benchmarks.

As a passively managed, index-tracking ETF, FDT provides exposure to developed-market equities outside the United States and falls within the Foreign Large Value category. The AlphaDEX® approach distinguishes it from conventional passive funds by relying on a rules-based, factor-driven stock selection process rather than weighting constituents purely by market capitalization.
