Cresud SACIF y A is an Argentina-based agricultural company, founded in 1936 in Buenos Aires and listed on NASDAQ since March 1997. It produces agricultural commodities across Latin America, with a meaningful footprint in Brazil, and operates through two reporting segments: Agricultural Business, and Urban Properties and Investments.
The Agricultural Business spans a diversified commodity base, including soybean, sugarcane, wheat, corn, sunflower, sorghum, and peanuts, plus grain derivatives such as flour and oil. The company also breeds and fattens cattle for sale to slaughterhouses and supermarkets, leases farmland to third parties for crops, cattle breeding, and seed production, and offers agricultural services.
The Urban Properties and Investments segment manages, develops, and owns shopping malls, office buildings, and hotels. This real estate exposure is significant enough that Cresud is classified under the Real Estate sector by GICS standards, despite agricultural production remaining the core operating activity of the business.
- Brazil soybean and corn prices boost agricultural segment margins
- Argentine peso depreciation pressures dollar-denominated debt servicing costs
- Shopping mall and hotel occupancy recovery accelerates urban real estate cash flows
