Outokumpu Oyj is a Finnish stainless-steel producer founded in 1910 and headquartered in Helsinki, with operations across Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. The company runs four segments-Europe, the Americas, Ferrochrome, and Other operations-and offers a broad portfolio including cold and hot rolled coils, strips, sheets and plates, quarto plates, precision strips, structural components (such as welded I-beams, hollow-section tubes, and bent profiles), stainless-steel powders, and nickel-based alloys.
Its products serve a wide range of end markets, including commercial kitchens and home appliances, food processing, automotive and transportation, building and infrastructure, energy, marine, and heavy industries. Beyond manufacturing, Outokumpu provides value-added services such as cutting, polishing, brushing, welding, machining, and plate bending.
As a GICS-classified Materials-sector steel company, Outokumpu operates in the stainless-steel value chain, which is more specialized than carbon steel and is characterized by higher corrosion resistance and alloy content. The inclusion of a dedicated Ferrochrome segment reflects vertical integration, since ferrochrome is a key input alloy in stainless-steel production, helping the company manage raw-material supply and cost volatility in a cyclical industry tied to construction, industrial, and consumer-durable demand.
- Nickel and ferrochrome price swings drive stainless steel margins
- European construction and automotive demand supports Europe segment volumes
- Americas price actions and capacity utilization lift segment profitability
