Description: USHY Broad USD High Yield

The iShares Broad USD High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (USHY) is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance of a broad index representing the U.S. dollar-denominated high yield corporate bond market. The fund invests at least 80% of its assets in the component securities of the underlying index and at least 90% in fixed income securities that BFA (BlackRock Fund Advisors) considers consistent with tracking the index.

The high yield bond sector, commonly referred to as the junk bond market, consists of corporate debt rated below investment grade, typically by major credit rating agencies. Issuers in this segment generally offer higher coupon payments to compensate investors for elevated credit and default risk relative to investment-grade corporate debt. ETFs in this category use an indexed, fund-of-bonds structure to provide diversified, exchange-listed exposure to a market segment that would otherwise be difficult for retail investors to access directly.

Listed on BATS since its IPO in October 2017, USHY is categorized as a large-cap ETF with a market capitalization of approximately $27.7 billion USD, indicating substantial investor adoption within the U.S. high yield fixed income space.

Headlines to Watch Out For
  • High yield credit spreads widen on recession fears
  • Fed rate cuts boost high yield corporate bond prices
  • Rising corporate default rates pressure high yield valuations
