Description: ESML ESG Aware USA Small-Cap

The iShares ESG Aware MSCI USA Small-Cap ETF (ESML) is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to track an optimized version of the MSCI USA Small Cap Index, with a tilt toward companies that MSCI rates as having favorable ESG (environmental, social, and governance) profiles. The fund holds at least 90% of its assets in the component securities of its underlying index, while reserving up to 10% for futures, options, swap contracts, and cash equivalents-a structure typical of ETFs that use sampling and derivatives to manage tracking and liquidity.

ESML falls into the Small Blend category and was launched on April 10, 2018, listed on the BATS exchange. As an ESG-screened small-cap product, it offers exposure to U.S. smaller companies while applying MSCIs sustainability criteria, which typically exclude or underweight issuers involved in controversial industries such as tobacco, controversial weapons, and certain fossil fuel activities.
